One aspect of a smartwatch that manufacturers have battled with over the years is how to boost battery life without compromising size. It’s obviously rocket science to increase battery life without jeopardizing comfort. Nonetheless, Samsung is breaking new ground, and its next Galaxy Watch 6 will have longer battery life than the Galaxy Watch 5.
Sammobile had earlier reported sighting the listing of the battery capacities of the next Galaxy Watches on a Chinese regulator’s website. From the listing, it’s now confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 6 will come in the regular Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, and each of these will be available in two sizes. Thus, the Galaxy Watch 6 will come in two models and four sizes, this is just like the Galaxy Watch 4 Series. And according to this listing, the Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic will have the same battery capacity.
According to the listing, the battery capacities of the Galaxy Watch 6 series are as follows,
- Galaxy Watch 6 (40mm): 300mAh
- Galaxy Watch 6 (44mm): 425mAh
- Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (42mm): 300mAh
- Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (46mm): 425mAh
This is a slight increase from the Galaxy Watch 5 which has 284mAh/410mAh for the 40mm and 44mm models respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro still beats all of these with its bigger 590mAh battery capacity.
It’s still unclear if there would be a Galaxy Watch 6 Pro, but for now, it’s clear we will have the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. Furthermore, I don’t know how the slight increase in battery life will affect the final case size and weight of the next Galaxy Watches. However, considering it’s only a small increase, it’s expected we’ll still have a very compact and lightweight Galaxy Watch 6 series.
Meanwhile, unlike the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro where a physical rotating bezel was ditched for a digital rotating bezel, the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will have a physical rotating bezel. This is certainly good news for Galaxy watch lovers as this feature makes it a lot easy to navigate the watch.
Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Watch 6 series at their regular annual August unpacked event.
