A significant number of smartwatches and traditional watches come in two sizes, and the reason for that is to give consumers the right option to choose the right size. A watch that looks adorable on a fat wrist might look awkward on a thin wrist. The new Samsung smartwatches, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 both come in two sizes. Although, this post will be comparing the difference between Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 42mm vs 46mm to help you make the right choice. Both sizes have the same features except for slight differences in sizes, battery life, and prices.
Note that both the 46mm and 42mm are also available in Bluetooth and LTE models, you can see that comparison here.
You should also know that both sizes have the same number of features. The only difference between the 46mm and 42mm comes in the different dimensions, weights, battery life, and prices. Beyond these, it’s the same feature in both sizes. And that’s to say that the 46mm has a bigger display size and also weighs a little more than the 42mm size. The 46mm also has a slightly longer battery life as a result of the bigger battery capacity and it will cost you a little more than the 42mm. We have always recommended the bigger size for men and individuals with fat wrists while the smaller size is a better fit for women and individuals with thin wrists.

Difference Between Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 42mm and 46mm
- Design and Display – The 42mm is more compact, but the 46mm will allow you see more at a glance
- Battery Life – The 46mm has a longer battery life
- Price – The 42mm is Cheaper
Starting with the design, both the 46mm and 42mm sizes have the same stainless steel case and stainless steel physical rotating bezel. However, the 46mm has a bigger size with a 45.5 x 45.5 x 11mm dimension compared to the 42mm with a 41.5 x 41.5 x 11.2mm dimension. This means that the 42mm is a more compact smartwatch than the 46mm. The 46mm also weighs a little more at 52g compared to 47 grams of the 42mm. Again, the 42mm is a more comfortable smartwatch to wear. Nevertheless, the 46mm is not bulky neither is it too heavy. It’s just that the 42mm weighs a little less and is more compact.
As a result of the bigger size of the 46mm, it has a bigger 1.4 inches display compared to 1.2 inches of the 42mm. It means that you will get to see more on the 46mm compared to 42mm. I’m not saying that 1.2-inches is too small, but it might be hard to read for individuals with sight problems.
The 46mm has a bigger battery capacity than that of the 42mm. It comes with 361mAh compared to 247mAh of the 42mm. This is just like the Galaxy Watch 3 where the bigger 45mm has a longer battery life than the 41mm size. So, you can expect the 46mm of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic to have a longer battery life than the 42mm.
In that regard, the 46mm can last up to 2days, while the 42mm will last just over a day. Usage definitely differs and it will determine your final result. You can elongate Battery life by reducing brightness, turning off the always-on display, and reducing the number of notifications you receive on the watch. Turning off WiFi and location tracking can also help you get longer battery life.
Moreover, there are battery saver modes that can help you get a little longer battery life with these two. Just have it at the back of your mind that if you intend to wear this watch every day, then you will need to power it at least once a daily
Due to the bigger display size and longer battery life, the 46mm will cost you more. I didn’t mind, I have already made my order on Amazon for it. The 46mm Bluetooth model will cost you $379.99, while the 42mm Bluetooth model will cost you $349.99.
The 46mm LTE model will cost you $429.99 compared to the 42mm LTE model that costs $399.99. These prices are lower when compared to Galaxy Watch 3 when it was released last year.
Similar Features
Beyond these differences, both sizes have the same appearance and design materials. You will also get 16GB of storage capacity for both sizes and as well as a microphone and loudspeaker are present on both sizes. It’s also the same health and fitness tracking features for both sizes.
42mm or 46mm – Which Size is Right For You?
It all depends on the size of your wrist and not really on the price. If you want a watch that sits perfectly well on your wrist, the 46mm is a better fit for individuals with fat wrists while the 42mm is more suitable for individuals with thin wrists. You can use tape to measure the width of your wrist-ankle then compare to the two sizes to get a clearer picture of which size is best for you.
