Huawei Watch GT vs Watch 2 Classic vs Watch 2 Sport Features Compared
- Design
- Connectivity
- Cellular Network
- Water Resistance
- Battery
- Media
- Operating system
Huawei Watch GT stands out amongst the three smartwatches with the most outstanding design. It looks elegant, bold, and classic and of course, features a bigger screen size that lets you see more at a glance. Besides that, the Watch GT is made of more durable materials; stainless steel and ceramic bezel, in contrast, thermoplastic has been used for Watch 2 while thermoplastic/stainless steel has been used for Watch 2 Classic.
The Watch GT is also slimmer, it measures only 10.6mm compared to the 12.6mm of both Watch 2 and the Watch 2 Classic.
The Watch 2 and Watch 2 classic have Wi-Fi and NFC functionality which is lacking in the watch GT. So the GT doesn’t support any payment system, that’s quite a very needful feature lacking.
The Watch 2 is the only smartwatch amongst the three that supports cellular connectivity, thus it is a standalone smartwatch that lets you make calls directly from the device independent of your phone.
The Watch GT is the preferred choice as far as water resistance is concerned. It is rated 5ATM while the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic are both rated IP68. This means while you can’t wear the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic to the pool, the Watch GT will blaze through the pool allowing you to track your swimming activities plus it has a new SWOF feature that gives you a summary after a swimming event.
Though, the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic are water resistant up to 1.5 meters, in other words should survive contact with water.
Again the Watch GT beats the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic when it comes to battery life. The Watch GT comes with a double chip-set architecture a relatively new technology that improves battery efficiency. Thus, the Huawei Watch GT boosts of about 2 weeks battery life on standby which lets you go longer from a single charge.
In contrast, it is up to 2 days of battery life with the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic.
The Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic have an edge over the Watch GT when it comes to on-board storage space. The Watch GT has only 128MB onboard storage space compared to the 4GB found on the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic. This means you can store and listen to your favorite tracks on the go – A feature that comes in handy when working out or perhaps just recreating.
A major difference between these three watches is that the new Watch GT doesn’t run on Wear OS unlike the Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic which both run on Wear OS. There is still a debate about which is better between a proprietary OS and a Wear OS that powers a vast majority of smartwatches. Samsung has gotten a whole lot right with its Tizen operating system. However, Google just redesigned the Wear OS which now has some interesting features that enhance users experience to a great extent.
One thing you have to know is that with Wear OS you have the option to choose from a large pool of apps. This is not the case with proprietary operating systems even though they try as much as possible to feature many third-party apps. The redesigned Wear OS 2.1 host lots of interesting features with versatility and access to your favorite apps.
Verdict
The new Huawei Watch GT offers a larger display that lets you see more at a glance plus its stunning classic appearance. However, going by more features the GT lags. First, there is no NFC or Wi-Fi. Secondly, the internal storage space doesn’t support onboard music storage.
However, the Huawei Watch GT features a more advanced activity-tracking technology that tracks activities more accurately. Moreover, it features more activity tracking features than the Watch 2 Sport and Watch 2 Classic.
It’s quite a difficult choice to make from these three smartwatches. Well, based on design and the best for fitness tracking the watch GT is the best choice, however, if you are concerned about more features then go for the Watch 2 or Watch 2 Classic.
So, overall for a better design, longer battery life and more accurate fitness tracking stats go for the Huawei Watch GT otherwise for more features go for the Watch 2 or Watch 2 classic.
