Kate Spade Scallop vs Scallop 2 Features Compared

What's The Difference?

The main difference between the Kate Spade Scallop and Scallop 2 is the presence of inbuilt GPS, HRM, 3ATM(swim-proof) and NFC hardware components on the Scallop 2 not present on the Scallop.

  1. Design and Display
  2. The design of the Scallop looks almost exactly like the new Scallop 2, except that there is a push-in button on the later not present on the former. Besides that, the design of these two still looks fascinating and stylish. The rotating digital crown button on the Scallop 2 now serves as an initiator for the heart rate monitor. By tapping the spade on the crown, the screen displays an animated heart before the heart rate monitor starts. This feature isn’t present on the Scallop

  3. Activity Tracking
  4. The Scallop lacked vital sensors which made it a joke when it comes to activity tracking, it had only an accelerometer that was able to track steps, calories, and distance. However, with the new Scallop 2, there is inbuilt GPS for effortless tracking of outdoor activities such as routes you take, distances and locations and in addition there is also a heart rate monitor that automatically tracks your heart rate.

    Scallop 2 is a comprehensive fitness tracker and with inbuilt GPS and HRM, it competes favorably with other high-end smartwatches.

  5. Water Resistance Rating
  6. The Scallop had an IP67 water resistance rating which makes it water-resistant up to 1 meter underwater while Scallop 2 has a 3ATM water resistance rating, making it waterproof up to 30 meters. So, while you can wear either under the rain or to the shower, you can only wear the Scallop 2 to the pool or ocean. Scallop 2 can also track your swimming activities such as calories and time spent which makes it a great deal for avid swimmers.

  7. Connectivity

The Scallop 2 lacks NFC which is present on the Scallop 2. The NFC chip in the Scallop 2 supports Google pay which lets you make payments on the go. A great feature for anyone in business who needs to manage time better.

Should You Upgrade?

Obviously the Scallop 2 is a better choice, it has same fascinating design but has more hardware features. It’s a clear demarcation between aesthetics and features. While the Scallop has the aesthetics, Scallop 2 has both aesthetics and features, but it will cost you more, about $100 extra.

In other words, the Scallop which is cheaper has a fascinating design but lacks inbuilt GPS, NFC, HRM and isn’t swim-proof. While the Scallop 2 also has a fantastic design with improved accessibility via the additional push-in button plus other useful features which makes it a great choice for the business and fitness-minded personalities alike.

Overall, Scallop 2 is a better choice.

Here is a summary;

KATE SPADE SCALLOP 2 The best choice, great design and more features for an additional $100. Gives the best value for money.
KATE SPADE SCALLOP Great design, a cheaper alternative to the Scallop 2.
