Garmin Fenix 5S Plus vs 5X Plus – The Difference?

Features Compared
The difference between the Fenix 5S Plus and the 5X Plus is that the later has a bigger case and strap size, longer battery life and features a pulse oximeter that’s lacking on the 5S Plus.

  • Design

  • The aesthetics of these two smartwatches look fascinating and shows the high level craftsmanship of Garmin in watch making. However, looking closer, the 5S Plus seems to have a more stylish design and attractive finish. The thinner bezel looks more stylish than the 5X Plus slight wider bezel.

However, 5X Plus also comes in a DLC titanium bezel which is stronger than the stainless steel bezel of the 5S Plus.

The 5S Plus has a smaller case size and is also slimmer than the 5X Plus. Obviously, Garmin made the 5S Plus for people with smaller wrists. The 5S Plus will look great on women and also a nice fit for men, but the 5X Plus is a bolder fit for men with fatter wrists.

The straps also differ, while the 5S Plus has a smaller 20 mm strap size, the 5X Plus has a wider 26mm strap size which further makes it a man-kind of Watch. It’s a great fit for men.

The 5X Plus is also heavier than the 5S Plus. So, from the design, the 5S Plus is sleeker and classier than the 5X Plus.

  • Battery Life

  • The Fenix 5X Plus has a longer battery life than the 5S Plus which makes it a better choice for tracking extreme workout sessions.

UltraTrac™ mode: Up to 70 hours

  • Activity Tracking

Both the 5S Plus and 5X Plus have same fitness tracking features – capable of tracking a huge list of activities except that the 5X Plus comes with a Pulse oximeter sensor that’s capable of tracking blood oxygen levels an important metrics in fitness tracking that is very useful for climbers and hikers to see how well their blood oxygen is adjusting to higher altitudes.

Which is Better?

These two, no doubt are great choices especially if you looking for a GPS smartwatch that’s comprehensive in outdoor activity tracking. However, going by the sizes, the 5S Plus is a smaller option for people with smaller wrist – I do recommend it for women.

On the other hand, the 5X Plus with a bigger case size, a longer battery life, and a pulse oximeter is a better choice. It’s a great choice and I recommend it for serious athletes and fitness enthusiasts that engage in longer durations. A perfect fit for men.

Here is a summary;

Garmin Fenix 5X Plus

The better choice for serious athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Offers best value for money. A great choice for men.
Garmin Fenix 5S Plus

A sleeker alternative, a great choice for both men and women.
Our Pick

Although a bit costlier, the Garmin Fenix 5X Plus with a pulse oximeter and a longer battery life does the trick. It is our preferred choice.
