What’s the Difference?
- Fitness Tracking
The major difference between the new Fossil Gen 4 sport and Gen 3 sport is that the former has inbuilt GPS, NFC and HRM plus has a smaller compact case size, a body built with lighter materials and is powered by Snapdragon 3100 chip.
The Gen 4 Sport comes in two flexible versions, a smaller case size of 41mm and a bigger case size of 43mm. These two sizes are still smaller than the Gen 3 sport which has a bigger screen size of 45mm. The two versions of Gen 4 sport have a slimmer thickness size of 12mm which is sleeker than Gen 3 sport which is 14mm thick.
Another difference, is that the new Gen 4 Sport has a case made of aluminum materials while Gen 3 sport case is made of stainless steel, which makes it more heavier. This makes the Gen 4 sport a better choice for sporty events. Fossil Gen 4 sport has three buttons, one rotatable digital crown type of button and two physical buttons making the interface easier to navigate, while Gen 3 sport has only one single button.
The Gen 4 sport has more hardware components built-in, it has an inbuilt GPS, NFC and HRM which are lacking in Gen 3 sport. This makes the Gen 4 sport a true fitness tracker allowing you track outdoor activities, automatically track heart rate and make mobile payments on the go.
Fossil Gen 4 sport is a better choice for fitness tracking among these two. It has inbuilt GPS that lets you track outdoor events such as location, distance and routes. There is also HRM that automatically monitors your heart rate. These are features that are not supported on Gen 3 sport and are very important to help you achieve more fitness goals. Worthy to note, is that the Gen 4 sport being made of aluminum is lighter than Gen 3 making it a more suitable wear for sporty events.
There is no much difference in the battery life between the Gen 4 sport and Gen 3. It is still the same average battery life of a day on mixed usage.
The most outstanding feature that sets the Gen 4 sport apart from the Gen 3 sport is that Gen 4 sport following Montblanc Summit 2, is the first Fossil smartwatch to be powered by Snapdragon 3100.
Snapdragon 3100 is the new chip from Qualcomm released in September which promises better battery performance and more accurate fitness tracking results. It is billed to power the next generation of smartwatches.
In addition, Fossil Gen 4 sport runs on wear OS 2.1 which recently got redesigned by Google ushering in some interesting features you will find very helpful.
