Fitbits Charge 2 is an impressive fitness tracker from Fitbit, a leader in the fitness wearable industry. The charge was released in November, 2016 and has quiet some great fitness tracking features and as well traditional watch functions.

The Fitbit charge 2 features an inspiring design that makes ideal as the perfect fitness tracker wearable for WOD or casual outings. It will look best on a female wrist, but will also look great on a male wrist. The strap comes in different sizes for a smaller as well bigger wrist. The screen size is 1.5 inch and the display is powered by OLED technology that adds to the display quality. The contents on the display can be viewed easily even under sunlight.

The body of the Fitbit charge 2 is built for durability with a stainless material that gives it a reflective elegant design. The strap is made of elastomer material while the buckle is a stainless steel material. The straps are interchangeable and can be customized to your style. The weight of the charge 2 is also encouraging, it weighs 36grams.


The battery life of Fitbit charge 2 is quiet impressive, though not the best. Just like the other fitbits It’s a lithium polymer battery. On standby the battery can last for about 5days+ while on mixed/average usage it stays up for about 3days+. Fitbit charge 2 can be charged via the USB charging cable that comes with the device, this can be done by plugging the cable into your computer or other low-energy source, its not recommended to use USB hub or battery pack in charging. It takes about 2 hours for the battery to be fully charged.

Water Resistance/Protection

Fitbit charge 2 is not water resistant, although it is splash-proof, but cant be worn to the pool for swimming. Like every other electronic device it is recommended that you get it dried up once not in contact with water to get the best out it. It also recommended that you don’t subject the device to high pressure such as diving, or wearing it to hot tub.

The Fitbit charge 2 like the Alta features a screen protection made of hard-coated plastic.

Activity/Fitness tracking

Fitbit is very keen on its healthy living hallmark and off course has built into the charge 2 fitness activity tracking features that encourages you to live a more healthier life. The charge 2 is capable of tracking multiple sports modes and real-time stats report. Fitbit charge 2 comes loaded with really smart sensors which are capable of tracking quiet a huge list of fitness activities. This includes;

  • Tracking steps you climbed.
  • It also tracks calories burnt after a workout.
  • The heart rate monitor sensor monitors your heart rate and can analyze general health of the heart plus real time heart rate zone.
  • It is capable of tracking your sleep.
  • It is also capable of reminding you of sedentary periods and encourages you to walk.
  • Notifications & Application

    Just like other versions of Fitbit, the charge 2 is capable of notifying you of updates from your phone. It notifies when there an incoming call, although you can’t answer it, similarly it notifies you when there are missed calls. The charge 2 also notifies you when there are notifications from third-party apps installed on your phone such as; facebook, twitter, instagram,whatsapp… Weather forecast, event/calendar reminder are some other notifications you can get on Fitbit charge 2. You can personalize how you get notified on the Fitbit charge 2 by setting it up using the Fitbit companion app.

    The companion app for the Fitbit charge 2 is the Fitbit app which over the years has received successive upgrades in it’s features and functionality which makes it a much better companion app for the device. Stats and metrics from workouts and other fitness activities can be viewed via the app even over a long period of time helping you monitor general health status and trends.

    The downside to the Fitbit charge 2 is that it lacks in-built GPS, however if you still want the GPS functionality, you can use GPS in your smartphone to connect. Similarly like the charge 3, Fitbit charge 2 doesn’t have internal storage space where you can store your favorite tracks which you can play via a Bluetooth enable earbud and finally, although the charge 2 responds when you touch the screen, but it is not touchscreen, it comes with a touch pad for accessing the device.
