Fitbit Ace is a fitness band from Fitbits specially made for kids 8+. It was released in June 2018, runs on a proprietary OS. It comes with 3-axis accelerometer and vibrator motor built-in which are capable of tracking activities helping you kid live a healthy life.

Fitbit Ace Features

Design

Fitbit Ace has a great design that makes it perfect as a fitness band. The screen size is 1.4 inch powered by OLED display which gives it a rich color display. It is not touch screen though , however its tap sensitive. You wake up the screen simply by tapping the OLED screen sharply twice at the rear end where the fitness tracker meets the strap or by turning your wrist towards you.

The body of the Ace is built with a durable surgical-grade stainless steel material while the strap which is interchangeable is made of elastomer a popular material in the wearable industry. The Ace is light weight that you barely notice that you are putting it on, it weighs only 23grams.

Another great thing about the Ace is that it comes with 10 fun watch faces which shows time and other stats, so you can customize it by choosing the watch face that is most appealing for your child.

Battery

The battery life of the Ace is great, it is powered by a lithium polymer battery which on standby can last about 8 days+ while on mixed average usage you should expect a battery life of about 6days+. Fitbit recommend that you charge the device once in a while to ensure you stay tracked.

The battery can be charge via a USB cable that comes with the device, simply plug the USB end preferably to a computer or other low-energy source, its not recommended to use a power pack or third-party chargers to charge the Ace.

Water Resistance/Protection

Fitbit Ace is dust and water resistance. It is splash-proof, can be worn under rain, in the shower, but it can’t be worn to the pool or ocean as this will damage the device. It is recommended that you dry up the device after getting it wet in other to get the best feel. Fitbit recommends that kids with eczema or other skin conditions should talk to a doctor first before wearing.

Activity/Fitness tracking

The Ace is majorly focused on fitness tracking and as such it comes with quiet a handful of sensors built-in such as 3-axis accelerometer and vibration motor. The device is capable of automatically recognizing select activities and other fitness tracking features such as;

  • It has the sedentary feature that reminds you to work when you sit for too long.
  • It can track different sleep stages .
  • It tracks distance your kid covered, steps, calories burnt and active minutes.

In the Fitbit app, parents can setup a family account and then create an account for their child where they can view activities and progress made. Kids can as well see stats through a secured kids view which can be turned on or off from the the family account.

Notifications & Application

For kids who own a smartphonbe, the Fitbit Ace is capable of notifying them when there is a notification on their phone once it is nearby. To see the notifications, simply tap the screen at the rear end where the band meats the fitness tracker. Notifications may include;

  • Incoming calls alert.
  • Events reminder: It updates you on your scheduled events.
  • SMS: it notifies you when there is a new message.
  • Info push: It also notifies you when there are notifications from third-party applications on your phone such as Facebook and Twitter.
