Finally, the wait is over, and Google Assistant is now available on the Galaxy Watch 4. This is coming barely after 2 weeks after Patrick Chomet, a sales representative, in a blog post indicated that Google Assistant is coming to Galaxy Watch 4 this summer.
Well, it’s not summer yet, however, Google Assistant is now present on the Galaxy Watch 4 which is a big surprise for many of us.
In a blog post, Samsung had confirmed that “Starting today, Galaxy Watch 4 users will also be able to download Google Assistant on their devices gaining access to fast, more natural voice interactions, quick answers to questions and on-the-go help”
Recall that Samsung and Google had partnered to release a unified Wear OS platform that would give Samsung smartwatch owners access to more apps – A limitation that seriously marred the Tizen OS.
Subsequently, Galaxy Watch 4 was launched but to the dismay of many users, Google Assistant was clearly omitted with no specified date of arrival.
The good news, however, is that after almost a year of waiting, the much anticipated Google Assistant has finally arrived on the Galaxy Watch 4.
With Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4, users now have two voice assistants; Bixby and Google Assistant. This is similar to Alexa and Google Assistant on Fitbit Sense and Versa 3.
While you can go ahead and download Google Assistant to the Galaxy Watch 4 from the Google Playstore, it is being added by default just like Google Maps, YouTube Music and Google Pay which were all added by default.
Personally, I didn’t see any news regarding this, I was playing music via the Spotify app when I noticed the Google Assistant icon next to it. I was very surprised and had to confirm my last update on the watch.
Apparently, Samsung is currently adding the app to Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
According to Samsung, the Google Assistant app will be available in 10 markets, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, The UK and USA.
It will, also, support 12 languages, which include Danish, English (American, Canadian, United Kingdom, Australian, Irish), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French (Canadian, France), and Taiwanese.
If you have not seen the app on your Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, exercise a little patience, it would soon be added.
When you receive the Google Assistant app on your Galaxy Watch 4, you’ll need to activate it to get full access.
You’ll need your connected smartphone phone to complete the activation process which is quite simple and straightforward.
To activate Google assistant on your Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, simply tap on the app and complete the process on your phone. Ensure you have enabled internet access on your phone before starting the process.
Galaxy Watch 4 owners can now use Google Assistant to carry out simple tasks using only their voice.
Some of the things you can do with Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4 include; setting up a timer, setting up an alarm, starting an exercise, starting a call, check the nearest coffee shop and more.
You can also customize the home key to easily access Google Assistant on the Galaxy Watch 4. To do this, open the Settings app, scroll to Advanced features and then scroll to Customize Keys to assign the Homekey to Google Assistant.
