The new Samsung smartwatches, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic come in two sizes: 40/44mm and 42/46mm respectively. Each of these sizes is also available in Bluetooth and LTE models. The main difference between the 40mm and 44mm is the size, battery life, and price. The 44mm has a bigger display size that lets you see more at a glance, yet is very compact. It also has a slightly longer battery life, but will cost you more.

Both sizes have the same armor aluminium case material, Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ protection and fluoroelastormer or leather straps.
However, the 40mm is a more compact and comfortable smartwatch with 40.4 x 39.3 x 9.8mm dimension and weighs only 26g. Meanwhile, the 44mm has a 44.4 x 43.3 x 9.8mm dimension and weighs just 30g. Nevertheless, you can see that each of these two is very slim, compact, and very comfortable to wear.
The available colors are different. The 44mm is available in black, silver, and green while the 40mm is available in black, silver, and pink-gold.
Although both devices display are powered by super AMOLED that offer rich depth in colors, the 44mm has a larger display size of 1.4 inches that allow you to see more at a glance. While the 40mm has a 1.2 inches display. This is not too small considering that it’s the average display size for most smartwatches we have seen.
The 44mm comes with a higher battery capacity that lets you go longer than the 40mm from a single charge. The 44mm has a 361mAh battery capacity which can get you up to 2 days battery life unlike the 40mm which has a 247mAh battery capacity that will get you just over a day of battery life. In whichever case, if you wish to wear the Galaxy Watch 4 to sleep then you should endeavor to charge at least once every day.
You can elongate the battery life of the Galaxy Watch 4 by reducing the display brightness, turn off the always-on display mode, reduce the number of notifications, turn off WiFi and location tracking when not in use. There are also battery saver modes that you can choose from to get a little longer battery life with the Galaxy Watch 4.
Because of the larger display size and longer battery life of the 44mm size, it is priced higher than the 40mm size. The 40mm size Bluetooth model costs $249.99, while the 44mm Bluetooth model costs $279.99. As per the LTE models, the 40mm LTE model costs $299.99, while the 44mm LTE model costs $329.99.

The new Samsung smartwatches run on Wear OS 3 out of the box marking a return to the platform that powered the Gear Live smartwatch. So, you’re getting access to more of your favorite apps which is something the Tizen platform lacks.
Another new feature is that the Galaxy Watch 4 and Classic are powered by a 5nm Exynos W920 chip which succeeds Exynos 9110 that powers the Galaxy Watch 3 down to Galaxy Watch. According to Samsung, the new chip accounts for a 20% increase in CPU performance and a 10x increase in GPU performance. So, you can expect a faster smartwatch.
There is also the new Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) Sensor that will allow you to measure your body composition. It will measure your skeletal muscle mass, body fat, body water, and Basal Metabolic Index. These are features that can help you know your body better and as such can also help you plan better workouts and diet.
In addition to these new health-tracking features are loads of other health tracking features like sleep tracking, heart rate tracking, ECG, blood pressure, and blood oxygen measurement.
The storage capacity has also been increased to 16GB. This is more storage capacity for storing and streaming your favorite tracks.
40mm or 44mm – Which Size is Right For You?
It all depends on your wrist size. You definitely want a watch that sits perfectly well on your wrist without being too small or too big for your wrist. Both sizes of the Galaxy Watch 4 are very compact, in fact, these are some of the most compact smartwatches we have seen. In this regard, the 44mm will make a perfect fit for most individuals. However, the 40mm size is recommended for individuals with very thin wrist.
You can also measure the width of your wrist-ankle with a tape and compare it to the two sizes to get the best fit for you.
