ECG tracking was one of the features that was much talked about last year when the Active 2 was released, this feature remained dormant because it needed to be cleared by independent health authorities of different countries to become functional. Now, in a sequel to the newly approved blood monitoring function for the Active 2, the South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has also cleared the Active 2 for ECG tracking. This will enable the Active 2 to be able to analyze the heart rate of users for irregular heart rate rhythm which can indicate atrial fibrillation (AFIB).
AFIB is a very common irregular heart rhythm complications which affects about 2.7-6.1 million people in the United States. If left untreated, it can lead to high-risk complications such as blood clot, heart failure and stroke which affects about 795000 people yearly in the US.
With the addition of blood pressure monitoring and ECG tracking functions to Active 2 makes it a more comprehensive fitness tracker that can be of great benefit to your overall health. For now, the ECG tracking and Blood pressure monitor features are only limited to South Korea and will probably become active later in Q3. Until then, let’s hope the Active 2 gets cleared for these features in other countries of the world.
